40 years of excellence

A postage stamp cost 5 cents, a gallon of gas sold for 32 cents, the Celtics won their 9th world championship and The Sound of Music played on almost every movie screen in the nation when a young sheet metal mechanic named Doug Hamilton decided to take his life's biggest gamble and open his own heating and air conditioning business in 1966. For his first job, he installed a humidifier into a Lynn home for $35.

For 3 years he worked out of his home's basement, but in 1969 Doug moved his young company to an old barn in Reading. A year later the old barn burned to the ground, but the company continued operating out of borrowed and rented quarters.

Always striving to provide the best products and services, Doug made the decision to sell and support what he thought to be the best heating and cooling equipment: from Carrier.

The company continued to grow. Urgently needing more room, in 1978 the company moved to Woburn and began serving homes throughout the communities north and west of Boston.

Now, 40 years after its start in a basement, Central Cooling & Heating has grown to employ 100 dedicated men and women and serves 5,000 homes in our area. We are among the top dealers nationwide for brands such as Carrier, Mitsubishi, Lochinvar, Aprilaire, and Viessman.
